Daisy Ridley to voice lead character in Studio Ghibli’s ‘Only Yesterday’
Following the massive success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, star Daisy Ridley will be taking a break from lightsabers and stormtroopers with her next film, Studio Ghibli’s Only Yesterday. Although her role as Bella Swan in Twilight kicked it off, it has been Stewart who has kept her career in motion ever since. Of course you can always fill that time with The Collected Works of Hayao Miyazaki, which is an Amazon Exclusive and should offer a few dozen hours of wonderful animated entertainment. It’s literally mainly just about focusing on what makes you happy.
Aside from Ridley, the film’s English dub cast includes Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire), Ashley Eckstein (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), and Alison Fernandez (Law & Order: SVU).
The 25-year-old actress spoke with THR and was asked if she had advice for Daisy, 23. It’s rare that a day goes by now without Daisy Ridley appearing on TV, and while she seems to be handling the attention quite well, dealing with this level of fame for years at a time would likely take its toll on even the strongest constitution.
In fact Ridley, whose role’s full name Abrams deliberately kept a secret prior to theatre release, openly admitted to having to overcome a good deal of fear to be able to do her “Star Wars” role: “Because I hadn’t made a film before, the whole thing was scary”.
She also says: “And if losing your anonymity or whatever doesn’t make you happy, then focus on something else”. In the film a 27-year-old office worker travels to the countryside while reminiscing about her childhood in Tôkyô.
But that wasn’t her only gorgeous look in the coastal city! “I think the reason probably this is such a loved film and will continue to be so is because it doesn’t feel foreign”, she said.
