Dak Prescott shining in preseason for Dallas Cowboys
In only four offensive series, the star receiver has four catches for 74 yards and two touchdowns.
Dallas Cowboys’ Brice Butler and Dak Prescott, right, celebrate Prescott’s touchdown in the first half of an NFL preseason football game against the Miami Dolphins, Friday, Aug. 19, 2016, in Arlington, Texas. Cedric Thornton continued to make plays up the middle and Shaneill Jenkins notched another sack, this time with a strip.
Dallas (1-1) had three holding penalties in the first five plays of an opening drive that stalled. Third-round rookie Kenyan Drake sat out the game with an injury, so leading the team in rushing was Isaiah Pead, a 2012 second-rounder who flopped with the St. Louis Rams.
The defense of the Cowboys in the first quarter didn’t impress much, especially with their first drive looking rough on them as they had some troubles with their tackling, resulting in a solid drive for the Rams and leaving the Cowboys looking for a few answers after that drive. End Andre Branch whiffed on an attempted tackle on a 15-yard touchdown run by Morris and was called for a roughing-the-passer penalty that negated an interception by Isa Abdul-Quddus. He said, “I don’t see a veteran quarterback on the scene or coming in, as long as we got the uptick arrow of Dak Prescott”. “We just gotta keep being there for him”. On the seventh drive of his Cowboys career, the Cowboys put up points for the sixth time, as Dan Bailey nailed a 51 yard field goal to extend the lead to 24-14. First-round pick Laremy Tunsil got his first start, at left guard, and newcomer Jermon Bushrod started at right guard, pushing to the bench last year’s starting guards, the beleaguered Dallas Thomas and Billy Turner. It was just good to see the coaching staff and everybody get behind the promise of what he might be able to be as a player.
Dolphins: Backup quarterback Matt Moore left after his second play when he was hit in the head while sliding by linebacker James Morris, who was penalized.
The next possession also went 75 yards for a touchdown, only this was more picturesque.
While they have the makings of being a contender in the NFC East under Romo, the Cowboys will go as far as Romo’s back will take them, and while Prescott did look impressive in a pre-season game.
The Cowboys’ other signal caller, Jameill Showers, wasn’t almost as impressive against L.A., completing half of his passes for 99 yards and no scores. They all work the defensive side of the ball. Prescott would later call his own number for one final Cowboys’ touchdown, as a Vince Mayle blocked punt set up a one-yard QB sneak.
