Dak Prescott to Remain Cowboys’ Starter Vs. Eagles in Week 8
There is so much more that can be said about each of these two teams on bye, but for right now, they are on completely opposite sides of the standings with no change of that anywhere in sight. The best example: in the closing minute of the first half, when he guided the Cowboys down the field for a score with no timeouts, hitting Brice Butler on a 20-yard dime for a touchdown. “The interception was not a good play by him”. But of course, decisions like these never are. In Dallas, he rushed 20 times in just six games.
In summary: It’s still anyone’s guess who Dallas’ starting QB will be when Romo and Prescott both suit up.
Although Romo is not expected to participate in the team’s lone practice this week on their bye, no timetable is known for when the decision will be made, at least publicly. Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report also believes Dallas could make a move before the November 1 deadline. “Tony has done a really good job with his rehab, and he’s getting better and better every day”. Plus, it gives the team a more proven quarterback who has experience producing records above 7-9. The 21-year-old Elliott entered the bye leading the National Football League with 703 yards rushing, and the fourth overall pick in the draft is the first rookie with four straight games of at least 130 yards. Chemistry can be an elusive commodity, and the Cowboys clearly have it now.
If the Cowboys chose to trade Romo and let Prescott have the keys to the vehicle for the future of the franchise, it would not be unprecedented. Or does sticking with Prescott make for a more divisive locker room because so many of his teammates have supported Romo through thick and thinner? The record, which stood at 162, is now set at 176 after Prescott threw his first pick on Sunday at Green Bay. But, Prescott, 23, has erased all doubt of the Cowboys quarterback future, once Romo decides to hang up the cleats. Prescott himself has said just a week ago that “this is Tony’s team”.
“My family doesn’t really treat me like a celebrity, so that’s kind of the whole objective of going there”, he said Wednesday after the team’s only practice of the week.
“Obviously, with the way Dak’s playing, I don’t think anybody’s rushing this situation with him”, Jones said.
Or Romo’s team. Slip of the tongue there?
Dak Prescott threw a career-high three touchdown passes and helped the Cowboys win for just the second time in franchise history at Lambeau Field.
“Bill [Parcells] wants me here, and being the starter”, Bledsoe said”. That’s the competitor in me.
With Philadelphia winning its last three at AT&T Stadium, I had this one as a loss at the beginning of the year.
If the Cowboys are committed to Romo, perhaps that commitment should be reflected by protecting him as long as possible.
I’m not even sure Jerry Jones can screw this up.
