Dale Steyn unlikely to take the field on Day 3
All indications suggest JP Duminy would be fit to take the field in the second Test against India in Bangalore.
“Dale Steyn is off the field due to a tight right groin”, read the tweet. Steyn was unable to bowl during India’s second innings but was able to bat in South Africa’s. South Africa could play him alongside one specialist spinner and create room for an extra batsman in the line-up.
Having bowled out South Africa for 184 in their first innings, India went into stumps on day two at 125 for two, with a lead of 142 runs in hand. “He will have a net session in the next couple of days and should be available for selection for the second Test match in Bengaluru”, he was quoted as saying in a press release from Cricket South Africa on Saturday. “Morne Morkel has fully recovered from the right quad strain, if the Test match had started a day later he probably would have been available for selection, but it was too soon and he didnt pass his fitness test on the morning of the match”, Moosajee said.
South Africa’s hopes of salvaging the first test against India suffered a blow on Friday as fast bowler Dale Steyn is expected to miss the rest of the match in Mohali with a groin strain.
Steyn, in 81 Tests, has taken 402 wickets which includes 25 five-wicket hauls and 10-wicket in a match ten times.
