Dallas Cowboys’ Season Riding on the Arm of Matt Cassel
The New York Giants had four second-half takeaways and scored two return touchdowns to beat the Dallas Cowboys 27-20 on Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
One of the first signs that hinted Bryant’s absence is when he did not participated during the Cowboy’s practice this week.
Cromartie’s other interception, the third Giants pick within five throws by Cassel, led to nothing, and then Cassel found the range. They used all three timeouts to force a Giants punt after a 3-and-out, leading to the Beasley gaffe.
Harris ran up the middle into the clear, zoomed past Bailey and stunned the Cowboys with a backbreaking 100-yard kickoff return to give the Giants a 27-20 win. The big news is that the Dallas Cowboys are replacing Brandon Weeden this week with Matt Cassel.
Cassel’s first interception was returned for a touchdown by Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. He also is under scrutiny for failing to catch a pass in the second half as the Eagles doubled him on nearly every play. Last week, Coughlin noted that “trust” was an issue now with the team’s sack leader because he slammed Philadelphia quarterback Sam Bradford to the ground for the costly penalty.
Cassel’s second interception came on a shot downfield, but the ball was a floater and allowed plenty of time for safety Brandon Meriweather to make the play.
The Cowboys (2-4) got a big game from Darren McFadden. His touchdown in the 2nd quarter gave the Cowboys a 13-7 lead.
What’s more, the Cowboys lost starting running back Joseph Randle in the first quarter with a back injury. Randle had 2 carries for 24 yards. Shane Vereen also had four carries and ran 56-yards.
Dallas had a chance to tie late in the fourth quarter. The offense drove to the Giants’ 31-yard line when the two-minute warning hit. For example, the football world (especially those who play fantasy football) is waiting to see the 2015 debut of Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz in what has been a weekly case of “will he or won’t he”.
That was Hardy’s lecture to the media roughly two weeks after being skewered nationally for comments he made about New England quarterback Tom Brady’s wife and a reference to guns in his first interview in more than a year. He did not participate in practice on Wednesday and Thursday, but is expected to play against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday.
The irony is that had Harris stayed in Dallas he’d likely be getting the same opportunity with Dez Bryant injured. We may not see any of these players take the field this afternoon. You’ve got to be respectful of the rules of the game and honestly you don’t want to hurt anybody, but to make him feel you is to bring his eyes down. The Cowboys were holding out hope that Bryant would be able to return from his foot injury, but it will be at least another week until he is on the field.
“Well, I know that I was more confident that we could reach those goals when the season started than I am today”, Jones said when asked if the high expectations were still attainable. Moore has been declared inactive for Sunday’s game against the Cowboys.
