Dallas Cowboys, Tony Romo Haven’t Given up on Making the Playoffs
Weeden, a former first-round pick of the Cleveland Browns, went 0-3 in replacement of Romo before being benched for third-string quarterback Matt Cassel in week six. Romo is due back for Dallas next week against Miami if he checks out physically during the week.
“He didn’t take part in practice”, said Dallas coach Jason Garrett, “but he’ll do that in the next couple of days and I’m optimistic he’ll play in this ballgame”.
The return of Romo at quarterback will inject the Cowboys with a few energy and optimism. They have failed to score a touchdown in three of the seven games and have averaged only 17 points per game in Romo’s absence.
Those are things he believes the team can build on his return with a few improved play, getting a win and getting on a roll.
“But bottom line is we’ve got another game and whether it’s there or it’s here or it’s in the parking lot, we got to go win”.
Tony Romo has shown exactly what his intentions are, maybe it’s optimism, maybe it’s lunacy, but might as well stick with the quarterback. So call me a lunatic or whatever you will. I’ve seen 29 game winning drives, there is no better closer in the National Football League than Tony Romo. I think they also understand the season’s not over.
“I don’t think anyone in this locker room thinks, by any means, this season is over”, Romo said.
Even optimistic owner Jerry Jones, who gave Romo the franchise’s first $100 million contract two years ago, gradually altered his view of Romo’s return as the losses mounted without him. Just like the overtime loss to the Saints, Lee suffered a concussion earlier in the game and was not on the field for the deciding play. “You lose enough games, sometimes it can creep in where it feels that way, and I don’t think our team has not ever given 100 percent commitment”. The offensive line struggled early, partly because of a few injuries they had to overcome during preseason, but also because it now seems clear that they are not as good at pass protection as was thought. He updated fans the next day about his condition, thanked them for their support, but that was it. The quarterback said “adios” to Twitter for two whole months.
The Dallas Cowboys have not won a game since Tony Romo fractured his clavicle against the Eagles in Week 2.
Cassel liked the matchup and went to Bryant, but McDougald came down with a game-sealing interception. Despite being 2-7, the Cowboys are only a few games out of first and still have a chance to make a run with a healthy Romo; that is if he can stay healthy. The likelihood of both teams bottoming out and finishing at 9-7 or worse is nearly nil.
