Dallas Mavericks sign, bring back Samuel Dalembert
The Mavericks remain attempting to complete the massive gap all through their ealier squad as a result of DeAndre Jordan’s reneging linked to spoken 100% free provider deal. The latest piece of the puzzle is center Samuel Dalembert, who has agreed to a one-year, $1.4 million deal, as reported by Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski.
Marc Stein of ESPN.com reports that the Mavericks are in advanced talks to sign Tunisian center Salah Mejiri and are also not ruling out bringing in JaVale McGee still. There’s no way all fo these guys will make the roster, but they could make training camp pretty interesting.
New buzz in Dallas is “optionality”.
For as long as he’s been in the National Basteball Association, Dalembert’s most redeemable skill has been his ability to alter shots at the rim.
Samuel Dalembert, the square-peg center from two seasons ago, suddenly looks like a lot better fit for the Dallas Mavericks’ hole at the center position. The following offseason, they shipped him to New York as part of the trade that brought back Tyson Chandler.
Dalembert, 34, will have an opportunity to contribute to a Dallas team that is in desperate need of help in the frontcourt after failing to get prized free agent DeAndre Jordan to sign on the dotted line despite a verbal agreement. In a recent ESPN story, New York president Phil Jackson revealed that Dalembert “had fallen asleep in pregame locker room sessions”.
It’s an essential signing for the Mavericks, who clearly have made the decision that they will try to survive the 2015-16 season with a committee of players manning the paint.
The difference between this stint in Dallas and the last one is that Dalembert should only have to be a backup. Dalembert ended his career at Seton Hall as the team’s leader in blocks (167) and second in field-goal percentage (.537).
