Dallas Police Chief: Sniper Left Ominous Message Written in Blood, Planned Explosions
One person from the Houston group was spotted in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, according to CBS.
The Dallas police chief gave details Monday on their investigation of last week’s ambush that left five officers dead and others wounded.
No one was found at the scene.
They said it appeared the gunman had acted alone but that they were still investigating whether anyone assisted him in the shootings, which killed five police officers and wounded seven.
“The Dallas Police Department received an anonymous threat against law enforcement across the city and has taken precautionary measures” to heighten security, Dallas police said earlier in an emailed statement.
Authorities have said the 25-year-old gunman kept a journal of combat tactics and had amassed a personal arsenal at his home that included bomb-making materials.
Jenkins said people who aren’t black should recognize and empathize with the distrust and fear that black Americans feel toward police.
Police said he told a negotiator he wanted to “kill white people”. Chief Brown said officers killed the man with a bomb-disposal robot jury-rigged with explosives. While there, the officer spoke to Johnson, who said he “had just gotten out of a class at a nearby self-defense school”.
Micah Johnson’s mother, Delphine Johnson, 49, brother, Tevin Johnson, and sister, Nicole Johnson, were seen venturing out of the house for the first time since the brutal slayings in Dallas on July 7.
He said he became increasingly concerned that “at a split second, he would charge us and take out many more before we would kill him”.
When asked about additional suspects, Brown said he is still not convinced that Johnson was working along.
A number of gun attacks involving police officers and civilians have occurred in other parts of the U.S. in the aftermath of the deaths in Minnesota and Louisiana.
“But during that talk, it didn’t matter whether he was black because he was shooting at us”, Brown told Jake Tapper on CNN’s “State of the Union”.
“He was secreted behind a brick corner and the only way to get a sniper shot to end his trying to kill us would be to expose officers to grave danger”, he said. It was not clear from Brown’s comments if police obliged this request. Bryan Shaw and Officer John Abbott were hurt in Thursday’s attack. “I stand with law enforcement all over this country”. “Get off that protest line and put an application in, and we’ll put you in your neighborhood and we will help you resolve some of the problems you’re protesting about”.
