Dallas police shooter wrote cryptic message in blood, chief says

Johnson shot and killed five officers and wounded 9 officers and two civilians during a protest Thursday in downtown Dallas.

“We had negotiated with him for about two hours, and he just basically lied to us – playing games, laughing at us, singing, asking how many [police officers] did he get and that he wanted to kill some more and that there were bombs there”, Brown said, “so there was no progress on the negotiation”.
The president planned to visit Dallas in a few days and to convene a White House meeting next week with police officers and community and civil rights activists.
Brown described the robot, which he said was purchased in 2008 for $151,000, and is still functional.
Johnson, a 25-year-old Army veteran, ambushed a protest over the police killings of Alton Sterling, in Louisiana, and of Philando Castile, in Minnesota.
Johnson’s father, James Johnson, said in an interview posted on TheBlaze website Monday (http://bit.ly/29y8V5u ) that he “didn’t see it coming”.
“I was scared. I really didn’t know what was going to happen”, a sobbing Jamar said.
Brown told CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday that Micah Johnson wrote lettering in blood before heading upstairs and writing more in his own blood.
She said her son lived like a “hermit” following his return from the Army.
Owner Jeppi Carnegie says that Micah Johnson was paid to care for his brother, who was in his early 20s.

Thompson had recently married another transit officer and had six grown children from a previous marriage.
Babu Omowale, another co-founder of the group, told Reuters he recognized Johnson from gun club events and the shooter “wasn’t a stranger to us”.
No uniformed police officers are apparent at the protest. That presented challenges for police to identify suspects after shots were fired.
Chief James Craig said Sunday that the department’s counter-terrorism unit found that posting while monitoring social media.
A source told WFAA the shooter, Micah Johnson, had bigger plans but fast-tracked them after the recent police shootings of two black men.
Police use of force, particularly against African-Americans, has come under intense and sometimes angry scrutiny in the past two years because of a string of high-profile deaths in cities from Ferguson, Missouri, to NY.
The arrests follow the fatal shooting of five officers in Dallas.
“Reality is highly dynamic, you will be drawing your firearm, moving, shooting on the move, fixing malfunctions, etc. all under high levels of stress”, the website says. Johnson had explosive materials “large enough to have devastating affects throughout our city and north Texas area”, the chief said.
