Dallas Shooting: Joe Walsh Defends ‘Watch Out Obama’ Tweet
As of Friday morning, his Twitter feed was still overflowing with posts blaming the president’s “words” and “BLM’s deeds” for the attack on law enforcement at the end of a Dallas Black Lives Matter protest.
For Walsh, though, this was the time to spread verbal violence.
Walsh was continuing to post on Twitter, repeating his belief that there is a war on police, that Obama and groups such as Black Lives Matter have caused it and that it’s time to “fight back”.
Walsh’s tweet quickly engendered significant blowback from people who were, understandably, pretty touchy about things that could be read as encouraging people to commit acts of violence against public officials.
“3 Dallas Cops killed, 7 wounded”.
“10 Cops shot. You did this Obama”.
He would soon delete the tweet, but not before it was retweeted thousands of times and virally circulated as a screenshot.
And another: “Well Joe Walsh did just threaten the president….have the Sec Service kicked his doors in yet?” You did this #BLM. “LGBT blames Christians. Obama defends Islam”, Walsh wrote as the death toll rose. After deleting the tweet, Walsh returned to Twitter to respond to the accusations that he was trying to incite a race war. Many called the former politician racist for calling #BlackLivesMatter protesters “punks” and criticized him for the context with which he used the term “Real America”. “I mean that we march and we boycott and we protest and we stand with our cops”. Instead, it mourns and wonders whether all this senseless invective and shooting will ever stop.
