Dallas woman who was shot at protest shielded 4 sons
Taylor remained on the ground to shield her son until police rescued them five minutes later.
Taylor and her family were at a protest Thursday evening to show their support for the two African-American men fatally shot by police this week, her sister Theresa Williams told CNN affiliate KTVT. Fox 4 News of Dallas-Fort Worth reports that when the shooters opened fire, Taylor pushed one of her sons between two cars and threw her body over him.
Taylor was taken to Baylor University Medical Center where she underwent surgery early Friday, said her mother, Mary Washington.
It wasn’t just police officers who were hit by sniper fire in Dallas Thursday night. After hours of attempted negotiation with the suspect, during which he expressed anger over the recent killings of Sterling and Castilo and said he “wanted to kill white people”, the Dallas police used a robot-delivered bomb to kill the suspect.
Taylor’s 15-year-old son, Andrew, was spattered with her blood, Williams said, and after Taylor fell from the impact of the shot, he ran to her and cradled her neck.
The family was peacefully protesting along with hundreds of other people.
Shetamia Taylor is one of two civilians injured during the Dallas shooting. “She said they just came so fast and they wouldn’t stop”.
Shetima Taylor from Garland, Texas, who is believed to be the only civilian casualty of the attack, was shot in the leg while attending the rally with her four children, Mail Online reported.
Taylor was rushed to the hospital with one of her sons.
A Williams, added that Taylor took her children to the rally specifically to teach them about peaceful protest. He has previously written about film for Bloody Disgusting, We Got This Covered, What Culture, and The Celebrity Cafe.
