Dalton, Bengals take losing record into Brady’s home opener
He could have said the same to the Cincinnati Bengals after a 60-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, the Dallas Cowboys’ last score in a 28-14 beatdown.
His hesitance said it all.
-SPECIAL TEAMS: D. Mike Nugent missed a field goal attempt for the first time this season, just when it appeared the Bengals were going to get on the scoreboard after trailing 21-0. Second-year, former sixth round pick Tom Brady played reasonably well and the team had chemistry and Bill Belichick went to Brady. Tom Brady now holds the record at 162 straight before his first interception.
“We’ve just got to take it one game at a time, one week at a time, one game at a time”, said Dak Prescott.
Prescott completed 18, ran for a touchdown, directed TD drives on four of Dallas’ first five drives and never gave a veteran Bengal defense a whiff of insecurity.
“A lot of people would become very divisive at that point”, Lewis said.
The biggest issues were on defence.
So all-in-all a good day for the Cowboys especially for rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott.
The Dallas Cowboys (3-1) outlasted the San Francisco 49ers, 24-17, last week in which rookie quarterback Dak Prescott threw for 245 yards and two touchdowns in 23-for-32 passes. He also ran for a touchdown, his third of the season. But his focus is more on getting the Bengals (2-2) back over.500 after they started 8-0 last season.
Elliott had 42 yards on the Cowboys’ first drive as the Bengals allowed their first rushing touchdown of the season on a 13-yard run by Elliott.
The Bengals will be getting back linebacker Vontaze Burfict, meaning that it will be more hard for Prescott to have those short passes he likes so much in the flat. “Find a way to win within this locker room and just know whoever is going to help you win is going to be the guys that’s in this locker room with you”.
Okay, I may have cheated a little bit with this one, but the pass rush for the Dallas Cowboys made things ugly for Andy Dalton the entire game.
We have massive, strong, scary people up front on offense.
The Bengals are at a crossroads.
It does not get any easier for the Bengals, as they will now travel to New England in Week 6 for a matchup with the 4-1 Patriots. The previous time they started 2-4, the Bengals ended up at 4-12.
“It was me adjusting to the system, and that’s point blank, period”, Elliott said.
“(Dallas) got us in longer situations on third down, and we weren’t able to move the ball”, Dalton said.
On his first defining play in the NFL, Elliott took the handoff on the left side of the line, cut back to a huge gap up the middle and outran safeties Shawn Williams and George Iloka converging from either side. Burfict played the most snaps among Cincinnati linebackers in his season debut.
Meanwhile, cornerback Morris Claiborne had three tackles and three pass breakups as he continued another streak of exceptional play for the fifth-year veteran.
