Dalvin Cook sets Florida State’s single season rushing record
Florida State’s Dalvin Cook was ranked second in rushing yards per game (153.9) in the FBS as he entered Week 11.
With the 138 yards that he put in on Saturday in the comeback win for Florida State, Cook surpassed maybe the greatest back in Seminoles history, Warrick Dunn, for the most rushing yards in a season.
Cook scored a 13-yard touchdown on the next play to give FSU a 7-3 lead over NC State in the first quarter.
Cook needed 12 yards to pass Warrick Dunn’s mark of 1,242 yards and after a 4-yard run the first time he touched the ball, he gained 11 yards on his third carry on a run around the right side for the record.
Dunn was the guest speaker at the Sod Cemetery prior to the game. Dunn set the record back in 1995. Cook did it in 151 carries.
Florida State running back Dalvin Cook, as a sophomore, has been having a phenomenal year in 2015 despite battling injuries, especially his hamstring. His season is the most impressive of any running back in the country. Dunn accomplished the feat in the final three seasons during his career.
Cook is already pushing Dunn down the list in Florida State’s record books, and based on his remarkable skill set, he has a chance to be as good as or perhaps even better than Dunn at the National Football League level.
