Dan Halldorson suffers massive stroke, dies at 63
Canadian Hall of Fame golfer Dan Halldorson has died at the age of 63.
“Dan’s accomplishments on the golf course and his contributions to the game were outstanding and, although we are mourning his loss, his outstanding legacy deserves to be celebrated, ” Golf Canada CEO Scott Simmons said in a statement.
Halldorson, 63, suffered a stroke earlier this week and died this morning.
Raised in Manitoba, Halldorson turned pro in 1971 and joined the PGA Tour four years later.
His lone PGA Tour win came in 1980 when he claimed the Pensacola Open.He was also victorious at the 1986 Deposit Guaranty Golf Classic Champion, an unofficial Tour stop. He represented Canada on several WGC-World Cup teams.
“I think he’ll be remembered as one of the great icons in Canadian golf, ” former tour player Richard Zokol told CP.
Summarizing his career in that 2011 SCOREGolf issue, Halldorson said: “I got to go to places and meet people that I never would have had the chance to without golf”. He graduated to the PGA tour in 1975. “He kept his thoughts to himself and let his game do the talking for him”.
The past two summers he worked as the director of golf at Oak Island Resort, located beside Oak Lake in western Manitoba.
