Dan Mullen interviewed at Miami
Just one day after the Georgia Bulldogs football team played their final regular season game of the year, Georgia’s athletic department announced the school and head football coach Mark Richt had mutually agreed to part ways.
Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reported the Hurricanes are also still interested in Texas coach Charlie Strong.
Mullen is the only one of the four who’s now a head coach. He’s also produced more players selected in the National Football League draft since 2002, according to ESPN.
Dave Hyde of the Florida Sun-Sentinel reported that Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen is among three coaches who have interviewed for the Miami job, and that former UGA coach Mark Richt will join that group Tuesday.
On his radio show on Monday, Richt said that he had been contacted by about five schools regarding their empty head coaching positions, but did not identify which schools.
Schiano has really impressed people connected to the Miami coaching search, according to Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman, but I’d view him as a safe fallback option should Richt and Davis not work for whatever reason.
Miami interviewed Mullen, Butch and Schiano.
Richt grew up in Boca Raton, Fla., and was a reserve quarterback for the Hurricanes from 1979-1982.
Miami fired Al Golden after losing 58-0 to Clemson and Larry Scott served as the interim head coach, leading the Canes to a 4-1 record down the stretch.
