Dana White: Holly Holm’s Next Fight Won’t Be Rematch With Ronda Rousey
It sounds like Holly Holm will get her wish, and fight an opponent before facing Ronda Rousey in a highly anticipated rematch later this year.
Rousey joins a long, respectable line of athletes who have hosted SNL, and her appearance is a significant accomplishment. Apart from securing the UFC belt, it looks like she will be getting a nice pay bump for her efforts as well.
Holly Holm knocked Ronda Rousey out in their UFC women’s bantamweight championship bout Sunday in Melbourne, Australia.
White made sure to note that the rematch, though not immediate, was still imminent. “That’s all I can verify right now”. That’s the hardest thing for me. But I’m not going anywhere. I will be the first to admit that I am far from in love with the SNL seasons of the more recent years.
Tate was in line to fight Rousey for a third time before the UFC surprisingly selected Holm as the opponent.
Tune into NBC on January 23 to catch Selena Gomez and Ronda Rousey on Saturday Night Live. While the honor is another feather in Rousey’s marketability cap, it also represents another sign that Holm’s line of thinking may be on track.
“You will see Ronda Rousey fight again”, White told FOX.
On “UFC Tonight”, White announced Holm would fight before she faces Rousey, who is scheduled to film two movies in the next several months.
White even said, “Me and Lorenzo (Fertitta) should probably lose our promoter’s license if we didn’t make that rematch”. “I’ve got to talk to Ronda”. We understand there are risks, but Holly’s a dominant champion, and she wants to fight the best. “The Preacher’s Daughter” has said she wouldn’t mind making her first title defense against former title contender Miesha Tate.
