Dana White: Promotion Eyeing UFC 199 for CM Punk vs. Mickey Gall
Now 2-0 fighter Mickey Gall made a successful UFC debut on Saturday at UFC Fight Night 82, submitting Mike Jackson 45 seconds into the first round, and as promised that win will give him the fight with Punk, expected for June of this year.
Gall was discovered on UFC President Dana White’s Looking For A Fight reality program, where he scouts talent from throughout the country.
While CM Punk vs. Mickey Gall is still an absolute spectacle lacking nearly any value from a sporting perspective, this was a ideal performance by Gall. In his post-fight interview, Gall cried “feed me CM Punk”.
That desperate need led the UFC to Gall and eventually to Jackson, and established some incredibly high stakes for what would otherwise be an inconsequential fight. I’m supremely confident. I think I’m made for this fight. Whether you are a hater or a lover of CM Punk, one thing for sure is that his debut is going to be intriguing to say the least.
Mickey Gall (1-0) is making his UFC debut tonight after his first win, coming against Ron Templeton in Dead Serious MMA. That’s what I’m going to do.
‘I’m hungry; I want to be fed, feed me with CM Punk please. “I was kind of nervous the first day, but I was so happy I did it”. I said ‘good for you. “It was the only plausible fight for me at the time”, Gall said.
Despite the friendly encounter, though, Gall has a bold prediction for their fight, which is likely to take place at UFC 199 or UFC 200.
The ex-WWE star also said that he’ll be excited if Gall picks up the win on Saturday night, because that’ll mean that he’ll finally have an opponent that he can prepare to face. Like I didn’t know MMA wasn’t pre-determined or something like that.
“I just do better in high-pressure situations and it’s weird for me to comment on it because I can’t understand people being freaked out by that. “(Brooks) willl be used to the lights, but he’s going to have to deal with fighting me.
Conversely, there is no evidence that Brooks has achieved anything athletically outside of the roped ring – he didn’t play college sports and was never celebrated as a superb athlete by his fellow wrestlers. “It will be more of a shock for him than me”.
