Danbury’s protocol for Christmas tree pick-up
Residents will be charged $5 per tree for the disposal of Christmas trees Monday – Friday.
Those who want mulch must bring an appropriate container.
“That’s more than 3,000 trucks full of trees”, Kinsey added.
“They always have the prettiest trees”, Paula Jacobs said. Once they get those disputes resolved, then they turn their attention to getting rid of the tree in the living room.
A second rationale for leaving the tree in your yard is to use the dry branches for building fires in a fireplace. The tree will be decorated with lights, baubles, chocolate figures and coins, and the obligatory angel / star on the top.
Shawnee Mission Park: 6 a.m. – 8 p.m.
No matter the customer’s preference – pines or firs, cut or pre-cut – each tree is shaken to free loose needles and critters that have climbed into the tree to seek refuge from the cold. Zones A, B, and F will be collected on Saturday, January 14th.

The convenience centers, which are open 7 a.m.to 7 p.m. seven days a week, are at 10505 Old Stage Road, 6025 Old Smithfield Road, 3600 Yates Mill Pond Road and 5051 Wendell Blvd. The trees will be taken for composting at the company’s facility. They crackle loudly, burn brightly and are aromatic.
Trees will be picked up curbside and mulched for city landscaping.
Trees can also be processed as regular weekly household waste (landfill) in Peoria and East Peoria. “It is a good way to recycle and re-use”.
“We encourage people to recycle their Christmas trees if possible”, said Kim Harless, a Solid Waste Operations Specialist.
It’s located on Highway 50 and 31 Road.
Please call the Department of Public Works at 561-8100 if you have any questions. Before tossing out that live tree in the trash or burning it, consider its possibilities as wildlife habitat. “We’d like to ask people drop them off at the two designated sites instead”. The event started Tuesday.
