Daniel Holtzclaw Verdict: Rapist Oklahoma Cop Found Guilty On 18 Counts

Holtzclaw rocked and sobbed on his 29th birthday as he heard the jury’s verdict and his fate was sealed.

In a racially charged case that stirred national attention, Oklahoma City policeman Daniel Holtzclaw has been convicted of serially raping more than a dozen black women. Daniel Ken Holtzclaw shouted inside the Oklahoma County courtroom as he was handcuffed behind his back after the verdicts were read.

As the judge read the guilty findings in court late Thursday, Holtzclaw hung his head and could be heard crying.

A jury found former Oklahoma City police officer Daniel Holtzclaw guilty on 18 counts, including rape and sexual battery, reports KOKH-TV. “After four very long days of deliberation, when it was announced by local reporters that a verdict was in, my heart sank”. He then allegedly told her, “OK, you don’t have anything”.

Holtzclaw used fear and intimidation (not to mention his sheer physical presence at 6’1 and 245 pounds) to force himself upon the women and ensure their silence.

Holtzclaw now faces spending the rest of his life in prison after a jury recommended he is sentenced to at least 263 years for his crimes.

When Holtzclaw was sacked last year, the police chief wrote in his termination letter that his “offenses committed against women in our community constitute the greatest abuse of police authority I have witnessed in my 37 years as a member of this agency”.

One factor stands out, however – victims tend to be among society’s most vulnerable: juveniles, drug addicts, and women in custody or with a criminal history.

Other victims had also said during testimonies that they did not think reporting the matter to police was going to help.

The 17-year-old victim was the last to testify at trial.

Ligons said all she can say is that Holtzclaw picked the wrong lady to stop that night.

Thirteen women took the stand and told strikingly similar stories – Holtzclaw coerced them into having sex after threatening to arrest them on outstanding warrants or for possessing drug paraphernalia.

She was the first to testify. Her DNA was later found on his trousers. These are just a few of the cases that have African-Americans frustrated about the ways in which justice chooses to exercise her blindness.

He faced 36 counts including burglary, stalking, indecent exposure, sexual battery, forcible oral sodomy and rape, and all of the alleged crimes involved black women.

She called police about the attack, which started the entire investigation.

The AP does not identify victims of sex crimes without their consent and is not using the mother’s name so as not to identify her daughter. Holtzclaw was convicted of raping and sexually victimizing eight women on his police beat in a minority, low-income neighborhood.

The woman testified she was raped by a police officer but could not identify Holtzclaw specifically and said she thought the officer was a black man shorter than her. She testified she was walking to her cousin’s house when the officer pulled up in his auto. Holtzclaw’s lawyer portrayed him as a model officer and questioned the credibility of the women who testified against him. His defense attorney declined to comment.

Holtzclaw, who turned 29 on Thursday, was a former college football star who joined law enforcement after a brief attempt at pursuing an NFL career.

About an hour into Holtzclaw observing her like this, S.H. recalls that he began repeatedly pointing out that her chest was exposed.
