Daniel Jacobs has no shortage of resolve entering Gennady Golovkin fight
Gennady Golovkin’s promoter cannot see how the Golovkin fight on June 10 in his native country, Kazakhstan, would endanger Golovkin’s fight against Mexican Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in September.
A St Patrick’s day boxing NY cracker awaits Madison Square Garden Friday and Saturday. Both fighters have punching power and high KO ratios, good boxing ability and confidence in being able to win. Jacobs also won the United States Amateur middleweight championship and four New York Golden Gloves crowns. With the world talking about a potential future matchup with Canelo Alvarez in GGG’s future, Jacobs is more ready than ever for the challenge. There’s little to no retreat in GGG’s style.
For Jacobs, chasing greatness always goes back to the qualities instilled in him by his late grandmother; patience, excellence and a humility that begs recognition of his want to be a true role model. “One mistake and it could be over”. He’s making sure that not only am I going to make weight, but that I’m energized for each session in training camp.
“We need enough time to promote a great fight, you have to do the rounds, you have to do all these television shows, there are so many plans we have and we’ve talked about promoting a great fight”.
The problem for Jacobs is that when Golovkin gets tested, he tends to respond with more ferocity.
For Golovkin, on the other hand, a win will be a massive boost as he works towards securing a fight with Alvarez.
“In my opinion, Jacobs will benefit more by coming into the fight lighter, more agile, using his footwork and athleticism to implement quick lateral movement, while keeping the action in center of the ring.throwing sharp counters and then turning the more aggressive Golovkin”.
“Jacobs has to come out not playing nice”, he said.
One of those attributes would seem to be a home-crowd edge; Jacobs is a native of Brooklyn. “Guys become totally different fighters”, Jacobs said, noting how some look nervous or fidgety. People haven’t seen the best of Danny Jacobs yet. Often Golovkin breaks down his opponents with body shots, and if he lands his hooks to the body often on Saturday night he’ll breakdown Jacobs.
“Danny can go from being up on his toes, flash and jab and quick combinations or he may come at you like a wild beast – bang and dig and scruff you out”, Rozier said. “When I was on that hospital bed and my life was in jeopardy, it’s that will and that desire to get back to a place where the doctors told me I could never be and that’s boxing again”. “I may have to call an upset”.
“I love my Mexican fans”, said Quigley, who Thursday will put his undefeated record and No. 10 world ranking on the line when he takes on Glen Tapia in the main event from Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio (on ESPN2).
