Daniel Radcliffe says that Hollywood is “undeniably” racist
In a year in which Hollywood has been dogged by the issue of diversity, not least by the #OscarsSoWhite drama in February that eventually led to reforms to the Academy Awards voting rules, Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe is now saying that racism in the movie industry is “undeniable”.
As well as calling out Hollywood homophobia, Daniel also described the industry as “undeniably racist” during the interview.
“.It’s only been six years and I’m really enjoying just being able to do lots of other stuff at the moment”, Radcliffe said.
Radcliffe has been known to speak out about social injustice (how do you think he landed a coveted spot in our bracket, duh) after a clip of him shutting down a sexist interview question went mildly Tumblr-viral.
“Yes, I mean it’s pretty undeniable, that’s the thing, we like to think of ourselves as being a very progressive industry but we have been lagging behind in all kinds of areas and it’s been very well documented”, Radcliffe told Derbyshire.
While it was refreshing to hear some of Radcliffe’s current world views, we will never pass up an opportunity to listen to him chat about his magical Harry Potter past. “There are some departments that are predominantly male”, as reported by Expose.ie.
“Would you say Hollywood has been racist, is racist?”
“Radcliffe also voiced his concerns about how gay actors may have had trouble coming out for fear of being typecast in gay roles”.
“Neil Patrick Harris has made a career as playing the straightest guy on television, which is fantastic”. He did, indeed, see hope for Hollywood to change.
“And as I was working my way out through the crowd, I came face to face, very close to this girl who started making a face and going, “Oh, oh would you mind?”
The Harry Potter star is trying to be a part of the change.
