Daniel Sturridge: Out with foot injury
Liverpool’s manager says the striker must be aware of the difference between pain and serious pain after the striker’s latest injury setback.
The 26-year-old pulled out of the squad for the 2-1 Europa League win over Bordeaux on Thursday after reporting discomfort in his foot.
This latest issue comes after the England worldwide looked to make his comeback from a knee injury that has kept him out since early October.
We have to accept the situation and the situation is that Danny was very often injured in the last few months, maybe years.
“If it wasn’t someone with the quality of Daniel no-one would think about it.
Everybody wants him back on the pitch but we all have to learn the situation”, Klopp told reporters ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash against an out-of-sorts Swansea City.
“It’s not important. It’s only important to think about our own progress”.
“Daniel is coming closer and closer so he can train now seven or eight times in a row – that is the longest period since I’ve been here – and that will help him and in the end help us”, Klopp said.
“I’m waiting for him”.
Jordan Henderson is pushing for a recall after returning to full training but Klopp is likely to be cautious with his skipper meaning a place on the bench is the best he can probably hope for this weekend.
Klopp seemingly suggested on Friday that Liverpool will have to create a special programme for Sturridge. The training was intensive, as it should have been. But we all know the world is not ideal, even in Liverpool. For a player like him he is always (knocking) on the door saying “Give me five minutes, 10 minutes”.
There’s no doubt of Sturridge’s value to Klopp if fully fit.
“The one thing I remember most of all from being his team-mate is that he had to feel 100% right mentally and physically in order to play”.
“If you can go to Man City and put them under the pressure we did it is a sign of improvement, but it is getting that consistency and being able to do it game on game”, said the midfielder.
The club captain has played just two games for the Reds this season as he broke a bone in his foot during a training session in mid-August.
