Daniel Sturridge starts for Liverpool
The current campaign has once again been ravaged by a host of injury problems for Sturridge and recently, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp had suggested that the striker’s persistent niggles might have to do more with mental issues rather than physical.
“The return of Sturridge and Henderson was good news”.
Klopp’s football philosophy hinges heavily on the intensity of his teams when out of possession followed by the speed at which they then attack opponents at their moment of greatest weakness.
Will Southampton or Liverpool win this evening?
But despite Sturridge making just one appearance under Klopp’s Anfield reign so far, the incumbent German has moved quickly to clarify his earlier comments, going on to reveal he had a “good” heart-to-heart conversation with the England global.
A relatively inexperienced and young squad, few have tasted substantial success – James Milner and Kolo Touré aside – and the impact a trophy could have on them and their confidence going into the future cannot be downplayed.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said Daniel Sturridge has the club’s full support as he looks to get his season back on track.
“It’ll be really hard to reach the same level because in one-and-a-half years, we lost 10, 11 players – a whole team”.
Bogdan has been preferred to regular number one Simon Mignolet throughout this competition and Coutinho (hamstring) was due to be assessed after training on Tuesday having missed the previous two contests.
However, Southampton will pose a tough test with Ronald Koeman’s men looking to bounce back after consecutive defeats to Manchester City and Stoke in recent weeks.
Klopp has led Liverpool to four victories in their last five matches in all competitions and they will head to St Mary’s in confident mood.
Adam Bogdan has insisted he is happy to remain patient and await his chance to become Liverpool’s No 1 goalkeeper.
Christian Benteke has scored in each of his last two games against Southampton, both in the Premier League.
Jamie Vardy and Harry Kane have been the Premier League’s two most consistent strikers this season. “I know they booed Adam and Dejan so hopefully they’ll get the stick!”
‘He’s already played for Manchester City and Chelsea… “Koeman will say “we’re at home, we’ll play our game” and I think they’ll win this one”.
