Danny Amendola leaves game with knee injury
Danny Amendola, who suffered a knee injury Sunday night against the Bills, was present at the New England Patriots’ Wednesday walkthrough. If he doesn’t make the requisite progress, the potential exists for Amendola to miss a game, but he isn’t expected to log extended time on the sideline.
While special teamer Matthew Slater can be used in four wide receiver sets as well as tight end Rob Gronkowski, the Patriots’ reserve players will have to help the team remain undefeated as the Bills look to spoil their AFC East rival’s plans.
New England was already without some key weapons on the offensive end with wide receivers Julian Edelman and Keshawn Martin inactive and scat back Dion Lewis out for the season with a torn ACL. Tom Brady does a majority of his damage using the short passing game, and Amendola’s natural ability to get open underneath the coverage is at the utmost importance to the Patriots right now. Manning was demoted two weeks ago in what will go down as the worst game of his career. It appeared to be serious when he was seen carted off the field.
That win advanced the Patriots’ record this season to 10-0. It was third-and 10 from the 20 when White broke the tie. Curran reports that he is expected to miss at least this week’s game with the final diagnosis giving more clarity about how long he’ll be out of the lineup. While Collins was out, starting OTs Sebastian Vollmer and Marcus Cannon returned from injury, with Cannon called for two penalties on the first drive….
For Patriots fans, this promises to be a nailbiter of a season. With Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning probably out for Sunday’s game, the Patriots’ biggest obstacle running the table could be the lengthy injury list that has forced them to reshuffle their offensive line and receiving corps.
