Danny Ings confident in England step-up

“It is every boy’s dream and now that I have got the call, I want to build on it and progress again“.

Since making a summer switch from Burnley to Liverpool, the spotlight has intensified on Ings, who joined the Bournemouth academy after being released by Saints as a young boy, but he has responded in the ideal way with three goals in his last five matches and that focus on him has actually worked to his advantage after a call-up from Roy Hodgson.

When asked to describe his feelings following the announcement, Ings told the media that he was “in shock” at having got the nod, adding that it “means so much” to both him and his family, and that he hopes he can “build on” from this. The Reds started the season with three clean sheets and seven points from their first trio of games in the top flight, but it’s all gone pear-shaped since then.

Burnley await to see the fee they will receive from Liverpool for Ings, with no date yet set for a tribunal to assess his valuation, but his current run in the side, and goals against Norwich City, Carlisle United and Merseyside rivals Everton – in addition to his global call – can only help raise the price tag.

“Things like this give me great confidence moving forward”.

“It is hard but that is what you go for, ” he said.

Ings took a hefty blow to his ankle during the Merseyside derby and underwent a scan to determine whether there had been any lasting damage; it came back clear but he will be given until Thursday to recover before he returns to training.

“These knocks happen in every game and your adrenalin gets you through”.

“I look over the period of time he was out and our goalscoring record would be greater if he was fit and playing”. It is all about me and how I work. That is how I have been at any level, whether it was semi-pro at Dorchester Town or here at Liverpool.
