Danny Lee gets 1st PGA Tour win in four-man playoff
In unrelated-but-related news, Tiger Woods also played in The Greenbrier Classic and shot a three-under 67 on Sunday.
Amazingly, he putted superbly with his 56-degree wedge, sinking five birdies, though his luck ran out at the 17th, where he three-putted. And Lee admits he suddenly became nervous.
Lee said he hoped his victory would inspire others in both New Zealand and Korea. “I feel really comfortable over the golf ball, feel like I can hit every shot I need to hit”.
Iacobelli earned $15,000 to jump from 15th to second on the money list with $40,597.
Lee and Hearn won spots in the British Open, along with Hahn and Owen. All three will have hopes to play in the Presidents Cup and contribute to what has been a losing cause for the global team. He was 47th in the standings after The Greenbrier Classic. “I mean, it’s my job, and I just love doing it, and I’m just happy to be out here every week”. Lee had an opening, while Hearn was faced with slinging a low hook shot around a formidable tree trunk and under thick branches. “It was not my intent, but that was what happened”.
“I felt ready”, he said. Robert saved par on the 12th and then drained a 30-foot birdie putt on 13 to put himself one shot off the lead.
The rules stipulate Streb was allowed to replace the putter for the playoff.
Both Lee and Hearn birdied the first extra hole before Lee parred the par five 17th to win, Hearn struggling to a bogey after a poor drive left him out of position and unable to recover.
He returned to the PGA Tour in 2014 and safely kept his playing rights and with that experience behind him he has blossomed this season with now four top tens and he was already assured of keeping his card even prior to this win. However, his most impressive shot of the round came at the par-three eighth when he sunk a 36-foot birdie putt.
“All I can say is wow”, Lee said after banging in a 3-footer to win. I’ve been so close so many times this year and to win one, wow. The four finished regulation deadlocked at 13 under, creating the fourth playoff in the Greenbrier’s six-year history.
Russell Henley fired a 7-under 63 to set the early clubhouse lead.
“I was going though a rough time”. “I had full control over all clubs”.
The victory is a special one for Lee.
Former world No. 1 Woods snapped a string of 55 straight rounds with a bogey or worse – a stretch dating back to his last bogey free round at The Barclays in 2013.
