Daredevil Laso Schaller breaks world record by jumping off 58-metre cliff
Daredevil Laso Schaller set a world record after leaping off a 192 ft (58.8m) waterfall, which we wouldn’t recommend you doing unless you were trained.
Lots of preparation was required to allow the jump to take place safely.
Well the man certainly took a “giant leap” clearing a height reportedly taller than the leaning Tower of Pisa and maybe the India Gate too? Secondly, they explored the area with scuba gear – and set six tanks in the pool to aerate the water and soften the landing.
How about some more Red Bull cliff diving?
“The only difference is the airtime,” he claimed, that is why prior to his epic drop, his team timed the fall’s trajectory using rocks.
A video of the jump, shared online by Red Bull, shows Schaller’s jump from multiple perspectives, including a first-person view from his helmet camera.
Schaller hit the water at a speed of 120 kilometres an hour 3.5 seconds after jumping from a special platform at the cliff top, erected so that he wouldn’t hit the rock face on the way down.
Unfortunately for Schaller however, the daredevil missed the aerated section of the pool and instead landed on a harder zone of water.
Red Bull, which sponsors the event, has not yet responded for comment.
Given the water below was just eight metres deep, Schaller’s support team used divers to place oxygen bottles in the water to break the surface, reducing the impact.
