Dark Horse To Do Futuristic Take On “Lone Wolf and Cub”
Fittingly announced briefly at the tail end of their ‘Classified’ panel Friday at New York Comic Con and on Twitter, Dark Horse Comics revealed a 10-year licensing deal with James Cameron’s Avatar.
The new comic series will dive into the world that hasn’t, or won’t be told in the Avatar films.
Cameron is now in pre-production on a series of three sequels continuing the adventures on the planet of Pandora that are now meant to be released yearly beginning in December 2017.
Aside from that cheesy “fly with me” line at the end, this partnership does sound like it has a few potential for cool stories that help fill out the mythology of the planet Pandora, especially for the Na’vi, an alien species that fans only know so much about based on the first movie. No release date for Dark Horse’s Avatar titles have been announced by the publisher.
“Here at Lightstorm Entertainment, we’re in the midst of a massive undertaking”, Cameron said.
Director James Cameron talked about the project in a video during the event, revealing the partnership between his own Lightstorm Entertainment production company and Dark Horse Comics. The new book is set to be written by Eric Heisserer (Shaper) and illustrated by Miguel Sepulveda (Red Lanterns, Action Comics) as it provides a new re-imagining of Kazuo Koike’s classic manga Lone Wolf and Cub.
