Darron Gibson: Everton player charged with drink-driving
Everton and Republic of Ireland midfielder Darron Gibson is to appear in court, charged with drink driving.
It’s claimed he drove off before pulling into a nearby petrol station where he allegedly collided with a set of pumps before coming to a stop.
The cyclist is understood to have sustained minor injuries in the crash.
The 27-year-old reportedly failed a breath test after police were called to the petrol station.
The star was held in cells for several hours before being charged with drink driving, driving without due care and attention and failing to stop after an accident.
His carbon fibre vehicle – which suffered thousands of pounds worth of damage – is now being repaired at a specialist garage in Manchester after being impounded by police.
The footballer was arrested by police and taken to custody.
It is alleged he crashed his vehicle into a cyclist before driving off and hitting a petrol pump near his home in Altrincham.
He is due before Trafford Magistrates’ Court on 1 September.
Gibson started off his football career with local team Institute F.C. before joining Manchester United in 2004 however, in 2012 he joined Everton for a fee thought to have been in the region of £1m.
An Everton FC spokesman declined to comment.
