Data hack sparks ‘spin-off’ crimes
Eight people across the US who registered to use Ashley Madison are suing the cheating website after it was hacked.
Calling themselves the Impact Team, the hackers compromised the security of the website and stole personal information, credit card details and even nude pictures of people using the site.
John McAfee, the founder of the first antivirus software company, claims that evidence from the data dump that included all of Ashley Madison’s users show that the information was stolen by someone inside the office.
“This massive data breach could have been prevented had [Ashley Madison] taken the necessary and reasonable precautions to protect its users’ information by, for example, encrypting the data entrusted to it by its users on a database level”, according to the complaint.
Avid Life Media is offering a $500,000 Canadian dollar reward payment to anyone who provides information that leads to the identification, arrest, and conviction of those responsible for the theft.
“They did a very lousy job building their platform”.
Hunt, who also runs his own blog at troyhunt.com, has been keeping on top of developments with other Ashley Madison searchable databases and has come out strongly against trustify.com.
Ashley Madison users’ misery is Hollywood’s gain.
Information released by hackers reveals that 93 people in Wexford town are members.
Avid Life Media was hit hard by the data leaks, as well as various personalities and companies whose employees are subscribers of the site.
Previously, Ashley Madison had said that the full delete function would erase photos and messages sent to other users on the site, but that some user profile data could be deleted for free. Toronto authorities have issued a warning against possible scams and extortion of the site’s users who desperately want to keep their infidelity under wraps, according to Reuters.
Though the Police officer didn’t elaborate on the suicide cases, there are reports from various media outlets that two individuals allegedly took their lives, as one of the spin-off crimes that resulted from the hacks.
“This is one of the most significant Internet security breaches in history”, said Carmitchel. The acting superintendent has asked for aid from the hacking community and addressed the Impact Team as well.
