While yesterday’s 3-1 win was their first in the Premier League since October 29, what will concern manager Arsene Wenger is that they have failed to keep a clean sheet in their past six matches.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger hailed Alexis Sanchez’s “gut” following his match-winning display in the victory over Bournemouth on Sunday.
“He thinks it’s a severe one”, Wenger said, as reported by ESPN FC.
“That’s a bit frustrating; it played on the mind of the players”. “It was down to us to calm down at half-time and just focus on the game”.
Alexis Sanchez broke the deadlock on 11 minutes and that lead lasted the same amount of time as Nacho Monreal’s foul presented Callum Wilson with the opportunity to slot home a penalty.
“In general I am happy – more with how we’ve been playing as a team than with my own personal goals”.
“It was shoulder to shoulder”. “[It was] shoulder to shoulder, and I was really amazed that he gives a penalty”.
With Hector Bellerin now sidelined and Carl Jenkinson seemingly out of favour after two disjointed displays against Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain, Wenger was forced to get creative as another senior star headed back to the treatment table.
Ozil looks to be closer than Sanchez to signing fresh terms – although both stars are demanding over £200,000 a week.
“Even when he looks dead he’s still alive”, Wenger said. “He has the guts. He has that conditioning which allows him to always find an extra gear to be unsafe”, the Arsenal Boss said.
France striker Olivier Giroud dropped to the bench and there was a recall for right-back Mathieu Debuchy, who last played for Arsenal in November 2015.
Giroud, on the other hand, is believed to have pulled his hamstring just prior to providing the assist to Alexis Sanchez for the third and final goal for the Gunners. We have some time.
The good run will boost the team’s confidence ahead of a tough December when tricky games against Stoke, Everton and Manchester City await them.
“We gave them the first goal and got a number of chances we didn’t take, the 3-1 scoreline is hard for us to swallow”.
“It’s hard here, especially when you are Bournemouth”. A couple of things have gone against us.
And with Spurs suffering their first league defeat of the season, losing 2-1 to leaders Chelsea on Saturday, the Gunners have opened up a four-point gap between themselves and their north London neighbours in fifth.
