Dattatray Padsalgikar to take charge as Mumbai CP on Sunday
Padsalgikar a 1982 batch officer will be the first Maharashtrian to take over as the Mumbai police chief after nearly a decade.
He has spent over a decade working in the Intelligence Bureau (IB).

This will make Mr Javed the second former Mumbai police commissioner to get a prestigious diplomatic posting after JF Rebeiro who served as Indian ambassador to Romania between 1989-1993. He has also been with the Economic Offences Wing of the Mumbai Police and at various deputations at the State cadre. “I would like to give a suggestion to the officers to do so”, he said.
Officials said that he is likely to be promoted as director general within a month as he is due for a promotion. Javed was the DG (Homeguards) before taking up the post.
Ahmad Javed was given a farewell on Saturday morning at Naigaon police ground by the city police force.
Outgoing commissioner Ahmed Javed relinquished charge today and was given a ceremonial send off. Dattatray Padsalgikar will assume office on Sunday. Padsalgikar will retire from service in August 2018.
