Daughter shot by mother was visiting for holidays
A 911 recording of a Florida woman who shot her daughter dead after thinking she was an intruder has revealed her cop husband failed to mention the 27-year-old had been shot. In the call, a man can be heard telling a dispatcher that the victim “passed out”, saying she has a pacemaker and a heart problem.
The daughter died at a hospital. Campbell fired a single shot that fatally struck Doby in the chest.
Police said the homeowner was asleep in her bed when she awoke and thought an intruder had entered the house and was quickly approaching her.
“The homeowner’s story is consistent with the physical evidence and the witness’ statement”, Roberts said in a news release on Wednesday. An investigation is ongoing.
Kali Holloway is a senior writer and the associate editor of media and culture at AlterNet. The daughter is still breathing but very slowly, she says.
Neighbors said they were surprised that the shooting took place because of how safe the neighborhood is. The police said on Wednesday, that the fact was omitted because he wasn’t sure what had happened at the time, and didn’t realize she had been shot until his wife, a 911 dispatcher with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, explained it to him. “This is not an officer involved shooting and therefore, it will not be investigated by FDLE”.
The officer is now out on administrative leave, Roberts said.
St. Cloud is located in central Florida, about 35 minutes from Orlando. Authorities have asked reporters not to identify the family members because of the husband’s past work as an undercover narcotics officer.
This is not the first time in Central Florida where a relative has been mistaken as an intruder in a fatal shooting. Sherry has not been arrested on any criminal charges.
