Dave Grohl’s Foo Fighters troll Westboro Church
Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters trolled the Westboro Baptist church protest outside their Kansas City gig.
The band held up signs that read “Keep It Clean” and “You got Rick Roll’d (again)” as fans quickly crowded around them.
The Foo Fighters have been busy this summer bringing the awesome to each and every stage along their ongoing North American tour.
The neme was so named after being used in “rick roll” pranks to fool others into watching the music video. Rickrolling is an internet fad that tricks people in viewing the video of Astley’s 1987 pop classic.
Westboro’s website says members have protested almost 53,000 events including concerts and military soldier funerals.
As well as their musical success, Foo Fighters have also broken into another medium with their eight-part HBO series Sonic Highways – a documentary which has earned four Emmy Award nominations. “When we made this show, we just assumed that hard core music nerds would love it. The reach of the series went way farther than I imagined it would go”.
In 2011, the band recorded themselves singing a country tune with lyrics such as: “Think I’m in the mood for some hot-man muffins” in front of another group of protesters from the church. It takes all kinds.
