David Beckham Plays Soccer with Nepalese School Kids
David Beckham visited Shree Padma Higher Secondary School in Kathmandu today and spent a few time speaking with kids who have been attending classes in what the Associated Press described as “temporary sheds” made of tin and bamboo following the devastating quake that killed 9,000 in the area last April.
The sports star was given floral garlands and had his face painted as part of a local tradition.
As well as playing in Papua New Guinea, David is also set to test his skills in Antarctica, Nepal, Buenos Aires, the desert plains of Djibouti and Miami.
David Beckham has been making soccer balls out of banana leaves in Papua New Guinea. It is said that the charity series includes seven matches including in Nepal. Seven was the number he played with as a footballer and the name of his charity foundation.
The game will reunite him with his former Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson, who will coach a Great Britain and Ireland World XI team captained by Beckham.
His tour will finish at his former home Old Trafford, where he played for many years with Manchester United and where he will raise funds for UNICEF.
