David Bowie dies at 69: British icon transcended music, film, fashion, generations
In all of 50 years that David Bowie sang, acted, dressed and walked as a musician and actor, one thing was certain about him – he was definitely the most eccentric personality to have remained continually relevant in music history.
A mere three days prior to his death, Bowie released Blackstar without giving any interviews or planning a tour.
Representatives of the star posted on his official website and social media accounts that the entertainer died peacefully Sunday, surrounded by his family after an 18 month battle with cancer.
The iconic singer passed away yesterday after a secret battle with cancer. “I had incredible respect for that”, Van Hove had told NPO Radio 4. We began collaborating on our show, “Lazarus”, and at some point he took me to one side to say that he wouldn’t always be able to be there due to his illness.
Bowie’s success in keeping his illness hidden from the public was praised in an opinion piece in British magazine The Spectator. Bowie was the star of 1976 movie adaptation and he co-wrote the musical.
Angie Bowie was married to David Bowie from 1970 to 1980, and is the mother of his son Duncan Jones.
In response, a statement from Channel 5 reads: “Angie Bowie was told off-camera about the tragic death of David Bowie by her agent”. “I’ll be offline for a while”.
Bowie’s 25th studio album, Blackstar, was just released January 8 to critical acclaim.
“The press wrote that he looked so well and so healthy”.
“It’s not going to change, how we feel about him”. By the time I got to NY I was living like a king Then I used up all my money I was looking for your ass This way or no way You know I’ll be free Just like that bluebird Now, ain’t that just like me?
In Pitchfork’s review of the album (written before Bowie’s death), reviewer Ryan Dombal eeriely states, “David Bowie has died many deaths but is still with us”.
Bowie’s longtime producing partner, Tony Visconti, paid tribute to his friend in a Facebook post Monday, which called the singer’s death “a work of art”. But a 17-year-old boy knows his music. “I wasn’t, however, prepared for it”.
