David Bowie Has Ten Albums In UK Top 40 Chart
Amongst those to re-enter the top 40 are two compilations – Nothing Has Changed and Best Of 1969/1974, as well as the likes of Hunky Dory, The Rise & Fall of Ziggy Stardust, The Next Day and Low.
Blackstar, released on January 8, two days before Bowie’s death, knocked Adele’s blockbuster record, 25, off the top of the chart, giving the artist a tenth number one album.
A Change.org petition has been created by Simon Mitchell, asking the UK Government to replace economist Adam Smith with the late singer, who died on Sunday at the age of 69.
His new album, Blackstar, reached number one, selling nearly 150,000 copies since its release last week.
According to the BBC, Bowie sold 241,000 albums and 167,000 singles in the past week, while his songs were streamed more than 19 million times on Apple Music and Spotify, among other sites.
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). “And he wanted to do it his way and he wanted to do it the best way”.
He said: “We’re working hard to try to come up with a tribute show that we think is fitting for someone who made such a unique contribution to music”.
As well as jazz influences, Bowie also took inspiration from the rapper Kendrick Lamar for Blackstar, his 25 studioalbum, with songs such as Tis a Pity She Was a Whore bringing together a hip-hop beat with free-form sax.
Originally screened in 2002, “David Bowie: Sound + Vision” features nearly 10 hours of footage spanning nearly four decades of music videos, interviews and experimental projects.
The world, and especially New York City, lost a pop culture icon with the passing of David Bowie on Monday.
A CAMPAIGN to put David Bowie’s face into the wallets and purses of millions of Britons is underway as fans petition to have the singer immortalised on the back of the £20 note.
