David Bowie’s Body Was Secretly Cremated In New York Reports Say
The BRIT Awards has confirmed it will stage a tribute to David Bowie at next month’s event.
The late musician, who passed away following an 18-month battle with cancer, will be honoured at next month’s ceremony at London’s O2 Arena on February 24th.
Bowie’s death will also be marked by a memorial concert at New York’s Carnegie Hall on March 31. The show, announced hours before Bowie’s death, was originally scheduled as a tribute with performances of the singer’s hit songs by Visconti, Cyndi Lauper, and The Roots among others.
The streaming service Spotify reported a 2,700% increase in streams of Bowie’s music after his death from cancer.
Sir Mick said: “David was always an inspiration to me and a true original”.
LEONHARD FOEGER/REUTERS The critically hailed “Blackstar” was released on Bowie’s January 8 birthday, and the 69-year-old icon died two days later.
The album contains seven songs, including one called Lazarus which starts with the lyrics: “Look up here, I’m in heaven, I’ve got scars that can’t be seen, I’ve got drama, can’t be stolen, everybody knows me now”. A source told Radar Online that John was dedicating some new music to Bowie at one of his shows, but that he was also going to create a tribute to the late star.
Three more Bowie albums, including Aladdin Sane, rose into the top 10, and there were a further six in the top 20.
“I was trying to think of something amusing to say, but it wouldn’t come out right”, Fallon admitted.
“The cast didn’t know all that time, and I suspect that the musicians with whom he recorded “Blackstar” didn’t know either”.
Tony Visconti says his final conversation with his close friend, over FaceTime, was just a week before his sudden death – and suggested the rock legend had no idea how little time he had left.
