David Bowie’s “Lazarus” Video Is a Haunting Farewell
One of the most influential and revolutionary musical artists of his generation, David Bowie, died yesterday after an 18-month battle with cancer.
Iconic is an overused word, but it fit David Bowie like a glove.
Fans all over the world are mourning as news of Bowie’s death on January 10 spreads, just days after he released a new album, “Blackstar”, on January 8, his 69th birthday, Daily Mail reports. So I went for a dizzying auto ride through the Hollywood Hills and listened to ‘Diamond Dogs.’ All of my nostalgia, instantly turned to awe.
On whether he had relationships with the men in his life, he said: “Not if I could help it. I was incredibly promiscuous, and I think we’ll leave it at that”.
Recorded in secret with longtime producer Tony Visconti, this disc was recorded with jazz musicians and has a spaced-out, ethereal sound.
MICHAEL DARLING, Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art: The thing that made Bowie such a good subject for a museum exhibition is the variety of his output.
It’s as singular as “Young Americans” or “Heroes” or a slew of other albums in the musician’s repertoire.
A posting on Bowie’s official Facebook page confirmed the sad news this morning – but no further details were given. And he wanted to do it his way and he wanted to do it the best way.
In response to the shocking and all too sudden death of rock legend David Bowie, Marilyn Manson contributed a piece to Rolling Stone detailing how Bowie’s music changed his life. “I lived there for four years and did it up and kept the garden and made it much nicer”. “He was an extraordinary man, full of love and life”. He will always be with us. “For now, it is appropriate to cry”, he added.
Meanwhile, the European Space Agency’s Rosetta Mission shared a space-related tribute to the singer.
He was then called up for duty on his “comeback” album, The Next Day (2013), on which he co-wrote some songs. “Because he had been so many people over the course of his grand and vast career, it was inconceivable that he wouldn’t continue to be many people…”
It seemed that Lazarus was Bowie’s planned farewell and “parting gift” to his fans. And Bowie told the interviewer that he knew he could produce hit songs if that’s what he was really interested in doing. But he clearly lost more weight as the cancer took hold.
