David Bowie’s son takes aim at Lady Gaga’s Grammy tribute
Nile Rodgers has taken to Twitter to defend Lady Gaga’s medley tribute to David Bowie at this year’s Grammy Awards. However, there seems to be one very important party who was left unimpressed by the performance.
How do you sum up a career like David Bowie’s?
So in a gist I’ll tell you the exact things about Bowie that she incorporated in the appearance.
The “Bad Romance” singer, dressed as Bowie’s alter ego Ziggy Stardust, received a standing ovation from the star-studded audience at Los Angeles’ Staples Center after wowing fans with covers of some of the late legend’s most famous tracks, such as “Heroes” and “Let’s Dance”.
After Bowie’s son Duncan Jones responded to Gaga’s tribute to his father, Rodgers has now taken to Twitter to address the criticism.
The response to Duncan’s tweet was mixed with many praising Gaga for putting her heart and soul into the show, while others were quick to tear her down for doing the British icon an injustice.
Gaga on Tuesday limited herself to giving Instagram thanks to those who made the tribute possible, including fashion designers such as Marc Jacobs who recreated some of Bowie’s signature looks during his glam rock phase of the 1970s. While most reviews were complimentary, some Bowie fans have said that they wished Gaga would have toned it down a notch and just focused on a couple of songs instead of jumping all over the place.
Between her tattoo and her incredible performance, it is clear that Lady Gaga set out to honor David Bowie, and she really did it better than we could have ever imagined. While the inking is anything but understated, Gaga said it’s something she has been considering for a while, and the Grammy Awards was the ideal opportunity to go under the needle.
And while her Grammy performance has clearly been a success, it only follows the successes she’s achieved so far in 2016; her Golden Globe win for “American Horror Story” and her excellently received rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the Super Bowl 50.
The move appears to have paid off. Last year, McGuire was chosen to dance for a popular German singer, and got to perform before a crowd of 78,000 in the Olympic stadium in Berlin during her concert there.
