David Bowie to be remembered with ‘fitting tribute’ at 2016 Brit Awards
The chairman of the Brit Awards has confirmed that David Bowie’s “extraordinary life and work” will be honored at this year’s ceremony, which is set for London’s O2 Arena on February 24th.
Funeral plans have not yet been revealed, but it has been reported that he may be laid to rest in NY.
Dream Theater keyboardist Jordan Rudess recorded himself playing a stirring version of “Space Oddity” on his piano on Monday after hearing the news of Bowie’s death. I knew for a year that this was the way it would be.
“I haven’t seen him for so many years”, she says in the Diary Room after being told that David, 69, had died Sunday from cancer.
Lorde posted a lengthy heartfelt tribute for the Star Man on her Facebook page yesterday, talking of their first encounter. “He was my friend, I will never forget him”.
“Obviously this is a very sad day”, O’Brien told his audience. “Love to all”, he wrote. Of course, at the time of the album being released, we had no reason to believe that Bowie was so seriously sick he would pass away just days later.
Van Hove said that at the Lazarus premiere in NY on December 7, Bowie collapsed from exhaustion – “It was then that I realised it may be the last time I would see him”.
Desperate not to disappoint his fans despite his poor health, the Starman hitmaker attended the December premiere of his musical in NY but “collapsed from exhaustion” behind the scenes.
“The sun machine is coming down and we’re going to have a party”.
“He made Blackstar for us”, said Bowie’s longtime producer, Tony Visconti, “his parting gift”.
Lyrics in the haunting song include: “Look up here, I’m in heaven”.
Highlighting how secret Bowie kept his illness, long-time collaborator and friend Brian Eno said his death came as “a complete surprise”.
