David Bowie Was Preparing To Follow Up Blackstar With Another Album
Ivo van Hove, director of Bowie’s musical Lazarus, which opened in NY last month, was one of the few people Bowie had informed of his illness, in November 2014, to explain why he would not be able to attend all rehearsals.
Sales and streaming of Blackstar and Bowie’s older albums soared on Monday, rising to the top of Apple’s iTunes charts in the United States and the UK.
A spokesman for Bowie said he died on Sunday but declined to say where or from what type of cancer. “It’s the message of the whole show”.
Blackstar is David Bowie’s final release, but the recently departed artist was in the early stages of preparing another album, according to a new Rolling Stone interview with his longtime producer Tommy Visconti.
David Bowie’s album Blackstar dropped only days before his untimely passing, but it turns out he didn’t think it would be his last.
“I knew for a year this was the way it would be, I wasn’t, however, prepared for it. He was an extraordinary man, full of love and life”. I knew for a year this was the way it would be.
A source said: “In many respects you don’t need a memorial or service to remember David by… you have his music instead”. “Look up here, I’m in heaven”, he sings.
And when Bowie shot the video for “Lazarus”, he was seen lying in a hospital bed with bandages.
Angie hasn’t had contact with David, or the former couple’s son, Duncan Jones for many years and her decision to remain part of the show has come under criticism. However, it was reported that a memorial concert will be held March 31 in the Big Apple’s Carnegie Hall.
Bowie’s hits blasted out from a PA system but when it was reportedly shut down by authorities, the fans carried on singing as they celebrated the life of the flamboyant star.
