David Cassidy — Charged in Hit and Run Wreck
A witness alleged Cassidy was speeding before the noontime accident and couldn’t stay in his lane, said the Daily Mail, which first reported the news.
According to Florida state police, it was around noon when the actor failed to stay in his lane and then crashed into an unidentified auto driven by a man named Pedro Vargas. According to eyewitnesses, he jumped out of his vehicle – which had sustained a lot of body damage as well as a flat tire – and attempted to cover up his license plate before getting back into the auto and driving off. Cassidy’s license had been suspended stemming from three prior DUIs.
But from 1970 to 1974, when “The Partridge Family” was on the air, it was the rare teenage girl who was not in love with Cassidy and it was impossible to go a day without hearing “I Think I Love You” on the radio.
A little over an hour later, his vehicle in was spotted at Cleveland Clinic in Weston, Florida – not very far from the hit-and-run crash scene.
Police documents claim officers caught up with the former child star at a local hospital, where he told cops that he had exchanged information with the driver and was at the hospital for an unrelated check up. The charges were filed Wednesday, September 30, 2015.
Court date is set for October. 27.
A conviction in Florida could fetch up to a year in prison then more time behind bars in California for the violation of probation.
He was arrested in January of that year after blowing a. 19 on the breathalyzer when he was stopped near Los Angeles worldwide Airport.
His plans at the time included selling off his assets, paying off his creditors, finalizing his divorce from third wife Sue Shifrin-Cassidy and moving on with his interior-designer girlfriend Maura Rossi.
In August 2013, he blew. He filed for bankruptcy earlier this year.
Cassidy’s criminal lawyer has yet to return calls for comment.
