David Gordon Green Making Film About Boston Marathon Bombing
With several films about the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013 already in development, Lionsgate is added another, hiring David Gordon Green to direct Stronger.
David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman of Mandeville Films/TV are producing along with Scott Silver.
David Gordon Green is an interesting director. Three people died and more than 260 other people were injured in the attack.
In the book, written by Bauman and Brett Witter, Bauman shared his experience being a key witness in the trial of bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and his journey to rehabilitation after the attack.
There’s no word yet on when production should start, but the producers likely will get this one ready to film around or before this upcoming spring, in hopes to complete it for the awards season after this year’s. The acclaimed filmmaker behind movies like GEORGE WASHINGTON, JOE, PRINCE AVALANCHE, and MANGLEHORN is also known for less artistic fare like YOUR HIGHNESS and PINEAPPLE EXPRESS. CBS Films has Mark Whalberg attached to Patriot’s Day, while Fox needs a new director for Boston Strong after Daniel Espinosa stepped away.
