David Mark Wins Rerun Election
“In spite of the unprovoked attacks, our people came out in their large numbers to vote for the PDP candidate Senator David Mark”, he said.
The returning Officer of the electoral body, Mr Ishaq Eneji, while declaring the result, said that Senator Mark met all the requirements during the conduct of the poll, having majority of the total vote cast.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared former President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, as victor of the February 20th Benue South Senatorial District re-run election.
The PDP State chairman, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo alleged that the APC has hijacked the results from the polling units in Ogbadibo local government area.
Mark, who is the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) defeated his closest rival, Onjeh of All Progressives Congress (APC) after winning in five of the nine local government areas of Benue South Senatorial district.
Meanwhile, a total of 29,273 votes were cancelled, higher than the margin of win of 12,571 between Messrs Mark and Onjeh. The purported twitter message itself is not credited to any APC official.
Ochekpe advised Mark to take a backseat after 16 years of representing the senatorial district in the upper chamber of the National Assembly.
“Anywhere in the world, it’s candidates of elections who congratulate their opponents, not their parties”, Okpokwu Ogenyi, the spokesperson for the campaign, said.
However, the APC agent contested the validity of the result declared.
“We therefore call on all members of our great party to respond to the gesture by Nigerians by uniting behind the ideals of the PDP and visions of its founding fathers and reposition the party for the challenges ahead”.
