Davis Cup hero Kyle Edmund tipped for the top by Andy Murray
Edmund’s performance on Sunday was particularly impressive as he hit 27 forehand winners and 39 in total on the slow clay court to ensure Britain won their first World Ground Davis Cup match without their number one ranked player.
The 21-year-old inspired Great Britain to victory over Serbia in the absence of Murray over the weekend and the Wimbledon champion has backed the youngster to follow in his footsteps in future.
Edmund had to save two set points in the third set before holding serve and he won despite falling behind 4-2 in the tiebreaker.
Kyle Edmund carried Britain into the Davis Cup semi-finals with a 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (5) victory over Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic which gave the defending champions an unassailable 3-1 lead in Belgrade on Sunday.
Without Murray and with an out-of-form James Ward standing-in at No.2, this was a 50-50 tie, one that relied on Edmund winning both singles and Jamie Murray and Dom Inglot doing their bit in the doubles.

Murray made a decision to miss the tie in Belgrade as he rested just days after winning his second Wimbledon title at SW19.
In the opening singles, Edmund beat Tipsarevic 6-3, 6-4, 6-0 on Friday.
Serbia played without top-ranked Novak Djokovic and the country’s No. 2 Viktor Troicki.
Argentina reached the semi-finals for the 11th time in 15 years after Federico Delbonis clinched a 3-1 advantage for the South Americans in Italy.
Serbia captain Bogdan Obradovic said Zimonjic was playing on an ankle injury, and he was resting the experienced Tipsarevic for the reverse singles.
Pummelling forehands time and time again, Edmund broke for 4-3 but when he served for the match at 5-4, he was broken.
The Argentines celebrated on the outdoor clay court, and will take a 3-1 record against Britain into their September 16-18 semifinal.
Argentina has won the last three Davis Cup meetings between the two countries in 1981, 1989 and 2008 while Britain’s only win was in 1928 in the sleepy seaside town of Torquay. It faces the United States or Croatia in the semifinals.
Marin Cilic set up a deciding fifth match in Croatia’s Davis Cup quarterfinal against the USA, beating John Isner 7-6 (11-9), 6-3, 6-4 in the first reverse singles match Sunday to level the tie at 2-2.
That victory saw France win the tie 3-1 and move in to the semi-finals where they will face Croatia who secured an historic come-from-behind win against the U.S. in their Davis Cup tie in Portland.
On Friday, the Czechs took the lead in the tie as world No. 78 Lukas Rosol stunned Tsonga before Lucas Pouille, ranked 21st, then swept Vesely in straight sets.
