Davis expected to start for Pelicans
There is some concerning National Basketball Association news, according to ESPN, which reported that the New Orleans Pelicans forward, Anthony Davis, was carried off the court with a knee injury. Behind 21 points and eight rebounds from Anthony Davis, the Pelicans only trailed 48-39 going into halftime. Asked if he thought it was intentional, he said “no comment”. Davis immediately began hobbling and grabbed the right side of his knee.
Davis’ injury led to a series of technical fouls on Pelicans assistant coach Robert Pack, injured New Orleans center Kendrick Perkins, forward Ryan Anderson and Paul. AD was questionable to return in that game, and there exists a chance he might be available Saturday night.
“You saw the play with your own eyes, draw your own conclusions”, Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry told reporters. “We are going in the right direction now, but we have to keep it going that way”.
“It’s all part of the game”.
Eric Gordon led the Pelicans with 18 but Anthony Davis, who left with a bruised right knee late in the third period, finished only with 17 as New Orleans dropped to 4-12 for the season.
“I would say you do not enjoy any performance when you lose”, he said. “He’s hurt and we will see how it goes”. The Pelicans need to try to run circles around them and tempt the Jazz to join them.
The Clippers played with impressive energy and precision to dissect the visiting Pelicans, 111-90.
By the way, this is the second game running where the Jazz have played good defense on a team, but allowed the superstars to get “theirs”.
“I just think you’ve gotta just jell as a group and play better”, said Rivers, whose team was then defeated by the Jazz 102-91 before a sellout crowd of 19,060. “I think the physicality at the start was totally in their favor, and they controlled the game from start to finish”.
“It’s not the loss that matters the most, it’s how it’s happened, and the approach that we had”. It looked like they might make a run, before Trevor Booker and Alec Burks exploded and put the game out of reach.
Jordan wouldn’t quite go there when that subject was broached at the Friday morning shootaround, but he did put the blame on the players for dropping eight of the previous 11 games before they took on the New Orleans Pelicans at Staples Center. He had a double-double with 15 points and 10 assists but made just 7 of 20 shots.
Booker also had had three blocked shots on the night, three assists and a pair of steals to go with his double-double. “We have to come closer as a team and believe in each other”.
With a back to back against the Rockets and Cavaliers next on the Pelicans schedule, one would hope AD gets a little more help than he did tonight. “We have a really good Utah team to face, in that altitude, so it will be a good challenge for us”. In the first quarter, Davis had 14 points. New Orleans was outrebounded 49-35 and had just four offensive rebounds.
In the two games against Jazz last season, he averaged 37 points and 11.5 rebounds while shooting 74.7 percent from the field.
