Davis, Garza lead Brewers past Padres, 10
Milwaukee Brewers’ Khris Davis hits a three-run home run during the eighth inning of a baseball game against the San Diego Padres Thursday, August 6, 2015, in Milwaukee.
The Brewers put a run on the scoreboard against Despaigne in the first inning, then added three each in the third and fourth behind a three-run homer by Davis and a two-run double by first baseman Adam Lind, who along with Davis finished with three hits. Garza retired the next seven batters and left with a 7-1 lead.
Inconsistency and an damage finally led to Davis being changed by within the beginning lineup.
“You know it’s coming but you’ve got to get him in there to make it happen”.
The Padres scored an unearned run off Nelson (9-9) in the fourth, but the big right-hander, who threw a season-high 112 pitches, allowed nothing more.
Odrisamer Despaigne was destroyed in Thursday afternoon’s loss to the Brewers, yielding seven runs on nine hits over five innings. “They’re evaluating”, Davis said.
Brewers: Matt Garza (5-12) faces San Diego for the first time since September 27, 2011, when he was with the Cubs.
Davis’ multi-homer game was the third of his career and the second this season. “[It’s about] showing you belong here”.
Jungmann (6-3) has allowed two earned runs or fewer in eight straight starts and in 10 of his 11.
When the Brewers traded solid-hitting Gerardo Parra to the Baltimore Orioles on July 31, Davis became more of a regular.
“I did not really feel proper the primary couple of months and pitched by means of it”, Garza stated. He struck out seven without a walk, but San Diego still lost consecutive games for the first time since July 23.
Jonathan Lucroy, Shane Peterson and Jean Segura each drove in two runs to help Milwaukee record back-to-back wins for the first time in 15 games. He pinch hit in the eighth and flied out to right.
“He wasn’t making pitches”, San Diego interim manager Pat Murphy said. Dickerson was batting. 306 over 102 games with 10 home runs and 59 RBIs for the Chihuahuas. He was scheduled to start Friday night against the St. Louis Cardinals.
INF Cory Spangenberg (left knee contiusion) played his second minor league rehab game Tuesday for Double-A San Antonio. He is 2-0 with a 6.35 ERA in three career starts against the Phillies.
Lohse, who will be a free agent at the end of the season, will be replaced in the rotation by Tyler Cravy (0-2, 3.60 ERA). He was recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs for his third stint with the Brewers this season.
“Kyle was a real pro about it and that’s what you expect”, Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell said.
