Day before primary, Hillary Clinton campaigns with young voters
Hillary Clinton is now running behind Sanders in New Hampshire, a fact most Clinton aides are happy to point out in an effort to lower expectations. “I also think Hillary’s own age may simply have less appeal and relevancy to those female voters who are much younger than she is”.
And amid her decline, reports have popped up of an imminent campaign shakeup.
“When I think about what young people today have gone through, what they have known from our country, starting with a disgusting attack on 9/11, going into the great recession, there is no wonder that they along with so many of us are saying, wait a minute, we are better than this, we can do more”, she said. “I can only do my very best to try to put those to rest”.
Clinton has said in recent days that Sanders is trying to “smear” her by insinuating that she can be bought by Wall Street and other special interests. “I have seen him speak many times, and he just didn’t seem to be the same guy”.
“I haven’t just talked, I haven’t just given speeches”, said Clinton.
Clinton said she isn’t anxious about her position in the polls, calling Sanders’ lead a backyard advantage.
Bill Clinton did not mince words when it came to his wife’s Democratic rival at an event in New Hampshire on Sunday. The former secretary of state was working to close the gap in the polls as she campaigned with her husband, former President Bill Clinton, and their daughter. “You may not support me now, but I will always support you, and I will always fight to get results for you”.
The remarks came on the heels of a Politico story that cited a half dozen political insiders insisting the Clinton campaign was headed toward big change.
The Clinton campaign plans to open two other offices in Flint and Grand Rapids over the next week as they prepare for the March 8 primary against Vermont U.S. Sen.
Former President Bill Clinton, notably quiet until now, lashed out at Bernie Sanders on Sunday by accusing his supporters of sexism.
“We can’t get in a place where we’re so mad, we demonize everyone against us”, the former president later said, clearly frustrated. Once the primary reaches SC, it will kick off a run of states that Clinton will be favored to win.
Sanders has called for legislation to reintroduce Glass-Steagall and break up investment and commercial banking, a call Clinton has resisted.
Sanders has touted his “100% Planned Parenthood voting record”, and likened his grassroots campaign to the struggle for women’s rights.
In Iowa, it was Clinton who delivered withering critiques from behind the podium in early January, while Bill Clinton stuck to softer terrain of vouching for his wife qualifications as president, as well as a spouse and mother.
