Day of the Tentacle Remastered Gets Gorgeous Screenshots Showcasing the
Double Fine Productions has shared the first screenshots of Day of the Tentacle Remastered, which is playable on PlayStation 4 at IndieCade this weekend. The studio will be including a commentary track with the game’s original creators: Tim Schafer, Dave Grossman, Larry Ahern, Peter Chan, Peter McConnell and Clint Bajakian. I remember going in to my local game shop, and being sucked in by the box and its wonderful art. If you’ll recall, PC games used to come in these giant boxes, and this one, which had a bespectacled nerd and two of his friends running away from a purple tentacle brandishing a space gun called out to me.
Day of the Tentacle, or to use its full title, Maniac Mansion II: Day of the Tentacle, is a – as you might have guessed – 1993 sequel to the original 1987 point and click success, Maniac Mansion. It’s the successor to Maniac Mansion mostly in themes but not necessarily in design. We wanted the way you play the game to be as customizable as we could make it, so you can pick the way you want to play. In the original it was possible to choose three different characters, each one having their own unique abilities and skills although Bernard was always a must to have on the team. The PlayStation versions of the game will offer Cross-Buy support. And now, it’s coming back again thanks to Double Fine who are once again remastering a classic adventure game.
We first learned of Day of the Tentacle Remastered when Tim Schafer announced it along with Grim Fandango Remastered at last year’s PlayStation Experience. But surely, with developer rights being where they are, there’s no way that bonus could find its way into Day of the Tentacle Remastered, right?
